The Spelling Progress Digest

Anglophone communities love literacy and fight illiteracy--yet are marked by a perennial 20% illiteracy rate. Tho it's a no-brainer that funky English spelling is at the root of funky English illiteracy, most folks say, "oh well, what can I do?" Well, the internet is keeping us abreast of (and driving to some extent) mainstream published spelling progress, i.e. simple spellings such as 'u' (you) are sprouting and growing in mainstream texts thruout the world--spellings u and i can use regularly. Spellings in the list below are cases in point, i.e. clear, current, lowercase, non-italicized, non-quote spellings moving into the mainstream. Note: some items-- like 'dialog' & its inflections-- have moved into the mainstream so well they're tied with their ugly sister spelling (aka 'dialogue' & inflections); i.e. 'dialog' is a success, and 'dialogue' will continue its wilt relative to 'dialog' (as 'catalogue' wilted in the face of 'catalog').
