In the original version of the book, I said simply that Spengler had become a Nazi. I had in fact believed that Spengler was a nominal member of the National Socialist Party, until I was challenged by a reader on this point. A review of my sources (notably Spengler's Letters and Alasdair Hamilton's The Appeal of Fascism) reveals no evidence of membership, though there is no doubt that Spengler was a sometime supporter of the party for tactical reasons.
